Abandoned Spaces

I made images in numerous abandoned locations from the fall of 2016 through 2018. Lingering in these spaces, often dark or dank or threatening to collapse, the taste of a social order once held there quietly sharpened perceptions. My imagination sniffed to find a bit about the “who” that inhabited a place where workers toiled or celebrated, or a home that brought a family nearer refuge or fear.

It came as a surprise that there could be a soft beauty in one building and stark reminder of difficult times in another, all within a single site context. Leaving and being left remained a steady thread, the abandoners and abandoned invisibly shaping the space.
